Children's birthday party entertainer's are all over Long Island and some are fantastic while many many others are really awful. There are no qualifications or certifications for becoming a professional children's party entertainer and it seems to attract a lot of losers. There are plenty of failed actors, actresses, hack magicians and plenty other lunatics who seem to believe it is easy to entertain children. As a professional children's party entertainer myself for more years than I care to remember, I have to tell you this is not true. I've performed comedy and magic on many New York City comedy club stages for drunk audiences that were easier to entertain them a group of six euros. Entertaining children is not a easy thing to do.
Still I see lots of parents trying to find a cheap clam for their kids party only to discover that they threw a party by hiring a note talent loser in a scary costume wearing frightening makeup and a horrifying wig. If you can't afford to hire a qualified professional party entertainer then don't hire anyone. It's better to have no entertainment than to have terrible entertainment the end up alienating guests and making your children want to vomit. That is all.

Illusionist - Movie Review
Here's a review of one of my favorite movies about magicians, The Illusionist. Edward Norton is wonderful and the movie is absolutely beautiful. If you enjoy period movies with smart plots, great acting and great directing (and who doesn't?) go buy this DVD. It makes a great gift for any magician.
“Life and death. Space and time. Fate and chance. Theses are the forces of the universe. Tonight, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you a man who has unlocked these mysteries. From the furthest corners of the world where the dark arts still hold sway he returns to us to demonstrate how nature’s laws may be bent. I give you Eisenheim.”
While the movie uses a good amount of CGI and other camera tricks to make the stage illusions effective for the screen, Norton does a wee bit of sleight of hand in the flick. I would have loved to see him do some tricks himself. He was coached by none other than Ricky Jay, one of my favorite magicians of all time.
